Action and Adventure

Holidays in Sainte Foy in the French Alps, just next to the Vanoise National Park, are the perfect remedy to an office job in the UK! If a summer holiday of exercise, action and adventure, forever printed on your memory, is what you fancy, put a few of these mountain activities (of various degrees of extremity) on the agenda...

White Water Rafting

Your instructor/guide can look after groups of all ages and adventurous inclination.  Starting between Bourg St Maurice and Aime, the river runs down through the quiet valley, dropping through rapids, waterfalls and canyons.  End the trip in an area of deep water, where you can test your nerve jumping off the rocks from various heights... or even from the rope bridge swinging 20-30 feet over the river!

It is a wonderful day out, stacks of fun, and you will be well looked after by your guide.

Paracorps d'Aventure

High ropes in the trees, swings, rope-runs... have you tried "Go Ape" in the UK?  This is the high mountain forest equivalent.  Don't worry you don't have to hit the tree-top "black runs".  There are various grades and obstacles at all heights. But if you do...!

The Paracorps d'Aventure is just a 10 minute drive down the hill from your chalet, between Sainte Foy and Bourg St Maurice.

Mountain Biking

A free resort bus in Sainte Foy runs between the ancient village, the resort area, and up the mountain, all day from 8:00am to 5:00pm.  They will deliver you, your freinds and your bikes to your preferred drop off point, where you can cycle on up the mountain, or head straight down the various itineries for which Sainte Foy is becoming famous.

Just across the valley, a day out in Les Arcs or La Rosiere where the lifts are equipped for bikes, is a must at least once during the week for the keen VTT (Velo Tout Terrain) enthusiast.

Bikes can be collected from the airport if you are using our transfer service, or hired in Sainte Foy a couple of minutes walk from your chalet.

Tour de France road cycling

The actual event happens just once and spends a week in the region around the 3rd week of July.  See our Tour de France page for more details (under the "Holidays" menu).  But the routes will be there all summer - usually freshly repaired and enhanced surfaces, and our team can tell or show you the routes that will be or were followed, so you can test your muscles like the professionals!

Top Rope Climbing

Where else but the mountains!  The routes and climbs offer anything from extreme to a bit of fun bouldering.  Local guides can provide instruction, guidance, or just tell you where to go and explore.  Top rope climbing is a great way to start and there are a number of exceptional sites ideal for novices to "learn the ropes" and test their climbing skill and nerve.

Climbing Experience

Local instructors are also available as climbing partners or to go along and guide you if you are already paired up.  As your experience grows, the opportunites of the region expand as well.  Get ready for some serious exposure!  You'll be ready for that beer at the end of the day.

Trekking - day or overnight including overnight in refuge

The "Guides de Haute Montagne" is a specialism and qualification much saught after by the adventurers of the mountain.  But join one for a day or two hiking and you will find them friendly, immensely knowledgeable and lots of fun.  There are "refuges" dotted around the mountain, so you can pick a day trip, or an overnight or two in the high mountains on a longer hike.

Summer Glacier skiing

"Skiing in every season" is the claim made on the glacier in Tignes - and they live up to it!  Generally summer skiing is very warm, and available only in the mornings up to late lunchtime, when the heat is too much and the glacier is closed to preserve it for the next day.  But don't worry, because there is a host of other activities to pursue while you are in Tignes - lake swimming, hiking, biking... to name a very few.

Altitude Lake Diving

Well you can't get this at the sea-side!  Add this fascinating experience to your diving log book, and you'll be one up on most other divers and diving instructors you'll ever meet.  Explore the submerged moutain houses and villages under the lake at Tignes, starting your "descent" at about 1800m!

Parapente

Tandom experience flights, beginners course to gain your "wings" or the best flying and thermals in Europe.  If you'd like to sign up for a specific course when booking your holiday, please let our customer service team know.  Otherwise book a flight or a day out in the sky while in the Alps and be prepared for the thrill of a lifetime.

Canoe / Kayaking (Bourg St Maurice 2002 World Championship course)

For the enthusiastic white water canoeist, there are slalom courses at Bourg St Maurice, Aime and Moutier, just a half an hour drive from your chalets.  A gentle paddle around the lakes is also a possibility at Annecy, or a number of other local lakes.

Water skiing & Wake boarding

In the mountains?  Yep!  A day out at Annecy offers a host of watersport activities, sailing, windsurfing, jet skis, water skiing and wakeboarding.  You probably wouldn't arrange a whole holiday around this - better at the beach - but for a day out for some fun, this is a great one.  And the thermally heated water of Lake Annecy may surprise you.
